PNN/ Noida: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) organised its first Corporate Tax Conference in Dubai, UAE on 3 June 2023 on the theme UAE Corporate Tax – A New Paradigm Towards Transparency and Good Governance.

Mr. K. Kalimuthu, Consul (Economic, Trade & Commerce) Consulate General of India, Dubai, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. Ram Buxani, Chairman, ITL Cosmos Group, Dubai and Mr. Suresh Kumar, Chairman, IBPC, Dubai, were the Guest (s) of Honour.
Appreciating the ICSI for its commitment to promoting good governance and organizing such a conference in Dubai, Chief Guest, Mr. K. Kalimuthu said, “Company Secretaries understand the priority of any regulatory regime and help businesses navigate through the challenges brought in by it. Hence, they would be pivotal in synergizing the corporate culture with the new tax regime in UAE”.
While recounting the taxation journey of UAE and highlighting its evolution since the 1970s, Guest of Honour, Dr. Ram Buxani talked about how the new Corporate Tax will demand a renewed governance structure and the crucial role that Company Secretaries will have to play in ensuring adherence to compliance that will emerge with this new ecosystem.
Guest of Honour, Mr. Suresh Kumar, complimented the ICSI for choosing a befitting theme for the Conference and urged the Company Secretaries to comply with the transparency, disclosures and data collection requirement of the tax laws. Mr. Kumar also emphasized the importance of Company Secretaries in taxation policy advocacy and implementation.
Giving a sneak peek into the thoughts behind organizing this special Tax Conference, CS Manish Gupta, President, the ICSI, said “UAE has been a country of many firsts for the ICSI and hence it became all the more pertinent for the Institute to organize its first Tax Conference in Dubai at the time when the new tax laws are being rolled out to equip its members with its right knowledge and understanding.
