ATDC’S BVOC award function held

PNN/ Faridabad: The Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) held its ‘1st Certificate Distribution and Award Ceremony for the 1st two batches of BVoc Graduating Students at the Apparel House Auditorium, Gurugram on 21st November, 2019.

HKL Magu, Chairman, ATDC & AEPC presided over the function and Dr. (Prof.) Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) distributed the Certificates and Awards to the students. The AICTE Chairman in his Key-Note Address emphasized how the BVoc is a major tool for transformation of youth like India especially for SME Sector being the largest source of employment for the Country. The BVoc course addresses all the ‘employability’ factors which combine adequately, Skills, Knowledge and Life & Soft Skills.

Rakesh Vaid, Sr. Vice-Chairman, ATDC in his Address advised the students, going forward while working with the industry to play a key role in upgrading the efficiency and productivity of the industry so that the competitiveness of the industry can gear up to face intense global competition and take the fashion as a path of ‘sustainability’.

Dr. Darlie O. Koshy, DG & CEO, ATDC in his welcome address earlier recalled how in 2012, AICTE had set up the ‘Curricula Committee’ for Textile, Fashion and Apparel Sectors to develop a contemporary curricula and subsequently the same was released at the hands of the Hon’ble Minister for Textiles and the Secretary (Textiles). Later, in 2015, with AICTE approving ATDC as a ‘Skill and Knowledge Provider’ (SKP) ATDC had entered into an agreement with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), an Institution of National Importance (INI) under an Act of Parliament 35/2012) to launch the BVoc programme in two distinct tracks of ‘Fashion Design & Retail’ and ‘Apparel Manufacturing & Entrepreneurship’. With 2000 hrs. of intense skill training and 1000 hrs. of general subjects, the programme has been able to deliver well rounded and skilled individuals and the response of the Industry has been encouraging with students finding excellent placements with a marginal premium reflected in their salaries like course of the BVoc degree, ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 28,000 per month in M/s Aditya Birla, Lime Road, Banswara Syntex, Orient Fashions Pvt. Ltd. and Pratibha Syntex, as the reports indicate.

Total enrollment in BVoc programs till date has been1139 students. 1st batch in 2015 at 14 ATDC SKPs with 156 students. 5th batch in 2019 at 21 ATDC SKPs with 275 students. Currently about 800 students are undergoing training in BVoc programs. 231 students from 2 cohorts and from 14 ATDC Centres from North to South and East to West were awarded degrees by RGNIYD and 116 students in person attended the Award Ceremony. The cohorts include more than 70% girl students in the BVoc programme.
Celebrating the successful completion of the batches and Award Ceremony- a students’ ‘Medley of Dances’ from 10 States across India and a Fashion Presentation of 55 garments were presented at ‘Meraki-2019’ at the Apparel House Auditorium, Gurugram, following the Award Ceremony which was attended by a huge gathering of enthusiastic students and faculty members. The major recruiters and employers of ATDC students were especially recognized and awarded during the Ceremony. The awarded ATDC’s recruiters include Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd., Richa Global, Neetee Clothing Pvt. Ltd., Orient Fashion Pvt. Ltd., Pyoginam, K.G. Exports, Jyoti Apparels, Banswara Syntex, Amrit Exports Pvt. Ltd., Sidney Apparel LLC. (Must Garment Group) from Jordan and Chelsea Mills among a large number of over 200 leading exporters, brands and domestic companies, who are regular recruiters of ATDC across various clusters/ regions.
