PNN/ Faridabad: With a view to enhance the technical skills of the faculty members, the Department of Mathematics of J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad has organized a five-day Short Term Course (STC) on ‘Emerging Trends in Data Science and Its Applications’.  As many as 52 participants from University and other educational institutes are attending the course.
Member Secretary of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Prof. Rajive Kumar was chief guest of the inaugural session which was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar. Registrar Dr. S.K. Garg, Dean (HAS) Dr. Raj Kumar and Chairperson of Mathematics Dr. Neetu Gupta were also present on this occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Rajive Kumar emphasised on emerging subjects of engineering. Referring the Perspective Plan of AICTE on curriculum design, he said that in the era of interdisciplinary approach of engineering, the technical institutions need more subjects of emerging interdisciplinary field. In its Perspective Plan AICTE has defined nine emerging subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Robotics Block Chain, Robotics, Quantum Computing, Data Sciences, Cyber Security, 3D Printing and Design and Virtual Reality. He urged to introduce undergraduate programs exclusively from these thrust areas. As many as 200 programs have been conducted by AICTE under the Perspective Plan and more such programs have been planned to conduct between April 2020 and March 2021 under the activity calendar of AICTE. He asked the university to submit its proposal for the same. 
Prof. Rajive Kumar said that technology is changing in such a way that classes are moving to internet and it is the responsibilities of teachers to bring students to classrooms and teach such topics of emerging areas which are not available on internet. He also encouraged the faculty members to send their research proposals to AICTE for funding and to avail the maximum advantage of various schemes.
While highlighting the importance of Data Science, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar in his address, said that the importance and size of data is increasing day by day. Therefore, the roles of data scientists have become essential to manage the increasing size of data. He expressed his concern over the issues pertaining to privacy and data security. He asked the Department to design the curriculum of mathematics in accordance to the need of other engineering subjects so that students take maximum benefit of it.
Earlier, Chairperson Dr. Neetu Gupta welcomed the Chief Guest, Experts and participants. She gave a brief introduction of the STC and spoke about the achievements and research work carried out by the Department. Dean (HAS), Prof. Rajkumar spoke about the relevance of Data Science in current job scenario.
In the technical session, Senior Data Scientist from Global Logic Dr. Paramjeet Singh spoke in details about “Artificial Intelligence and Machine leading led digital transformation”. Prof. Karmeshu from Jawaharlal Nehru University discussed about “Mathematical Modelling Transformation Frame work” and “Computational Probability of Monte-Carlo method”.
